As we reach the end of a 6-year journey dedicated to game preservation, we must regretfully announce the closure of Forest of Illusion. We've come to the decision that we can no longer keep the project running. This is for a few reasons, but is primarily due to not being able to provide the necessary time and energy needed to maintain our cherished platform. We express our sincerest gratitude to our supporters and followers. Thank you for being part of this extraordinary adventure, and thank you to all past and present patrons who helped us get to where we are.
All previous releases (along with their original documentation) can be found here via archive.org. Enjoy!

Prototype preservation is slowly dying as we speak!
And whose fault is this? Hidden Palace is the one to blame! and their lazy community are cowardly to help. Their lack of support with poor preservation groups is no wonder why Forest discontinued because they couldn't gain enough funds, knowing just how outrageously overpriced prototypes can be especially first party early versions that are nearly impossible to find unless you invade a game company's server or learn how to look in Yahoo Japan instead of ebay, idiots. The end of Forest mark a terrible sign that prototype preservation is slowing coming to an end because Hidden Palace are too busy fooling around with Playstation and Xbox because they are badly overrated and too popular nowadays, also they are trying to avoid first party and 2nd party prototypes from Nintendo as the company was badly known for being notorious against gaming communities and preservation groups in the past few years. Prototype preservation is going to rot to the ground because you cheapskates couldn't pay them enough to keep their hobby going, even if they already given us a lot of prototypes in the past but most of what was found was rather pointless so far as all we get were a bunch of late boring builds of games already releaesd! Where the heck is Project Dream, 12 Tales, Kirby Air Ride 64, Earthbound 64, Space Ace for Nes, and those 2 unknown rpg game boy advance games when we need them? Even Panel De Pon 64 is still gone after it was sold off by a careless selfish youtuber! More prototype games will be lost forever because most of you just sitting out there doing NOTHING lmao. Don't expect me to be the only one doing all the damn work for all of you. Just do something and go out there to find more lost games so we can keep preservation going! Screw HP and Forest, they are unreliable and untrustworthy.

Re: baysam
That's really missing the point. If the project were to be handed out to someone else, there's the chance that it would've drifted away from its original vision, possibly becoming a hostile echo chamber with enough of the wrong hands exchanging each other. Plus, there's already other ongoing projects out there that set out to do what FOI was doing, meaning they didn't need to give the reins to another individual.

Thanks and bravo!
It's a shame these things happen, but nothing lasts forever. That said, you've done amazing work and I wish you nothing but the best in your future endeavors, whatever they are. I only wish I could give the selfish, negative reviews here a one star review. It's fine to be disappointed, but what does pitching a fit do? If they want services like yours to go on, they need to contribute, or start doing the work themselves. Again, thank you for your time and effort and bravo!

Thank you for your blessing, preservation God.
One of the few game preservationists who actually deliver. People always glorifying redump or no intro even though the only thing they preserve is hash number. Even then, some of them still gatekeeped by them. This scene will never be the same without you guys but i hope some other group will take the mantle.

Unfortunate but thanks
Really sad to see the site come to an end, like many others I wish I could see the site keep going, but of course costs and trying to run such a site with 3 people… well, all good things come to an end. Baysam! Please direct us to your website or other public contributions to the community that I’m sure you offer, based on your brief review and short-tempered criticism of others. I’m sure the complexity of your own preservation website will back up your accusations of laziness towards FoI staff. We are eager to see what you’ve done with your life.

Sad day for preservation
Pretty disappointing to see one of the few great videogame preservation projects cease due to what I can only gather as laziness on the parts of the people who ran it. Really failing to understand why the torch could not have been passed on in some way to other people who are trustworthy/not as lazy and who actually give a damn about the future of preservation.

Thanks for your amazing work
It's been a wild ride and unfortunate to see the preservation group end so sudden. You've brought us amazing releases no other group would do and shown us obscurer releases that would otherwise go unnoticed. Hopefully someone will be there to close that gap again. Good luck with the rest of life and with other projects!
